Good morning, dear friends! Happy May! Today there is no cooking! I am going to share some of the crazy aspects of a food blogger. If you are a food blogger, I am sure you will relate to it, if you are not you will laugh with our craziness! Kisses and hugs!
Props: by this tearm we mean everything that has to do with food photography: dishes, bowls, glasses, towels etc They are never enough! Now matter how many you possess, you want more! I used to crave for clothes, now I get excited whenever I come across vintage cutlery! It is strange how much people change… The other day our sister, Sophia, bought some new dishes for me and I realised how thrilled I was with this kind of present. Here are some examples of my props-obsession. I was watching cartoons on youtube with my baby boy and suddenly i spotted a beautiful dish. Oh God, I thought to myself! I am addicted! I had gone to an italian restaurant to dine the other day. The waiter brought us the bread wrapped in a beautiful towel. I wanted it so badly! So I asked if I could buy it. He said I couldn’t and that it was not for sale…Damn! How could he be so cruel?I was really disappointed…
We had our house renovated during summer. I asked my carpenter to make me special cupboards for my props collection which keeps getting larger and larger! I have so many dishes of various sizes, colours, many bowls, towels etc. Well there are people who collect stamps, I collect props! And the last example of my props addiction is when I spotted on instagram a fine collection of vintage cutlery. It was love at first sight! I wrote that I loved it and that it would be ideal for food photography. To be honest deep inside I hoped that the owner would say “Would you like me to send you two forks?” Of course she just thanked me for my comment and that was it. Hello, Lenia, wake up! She wouldn’t ruin her collection because of your craziness!
Weather, friend or enemy?: I think that the weather forecast is equally important for farmers and foodbloggers! You see sunlight is our best friend for shooting beautiful pics. We dont have professional equipment, so we avoid shooting during gloomy days (flash is not recommended). It is such a disaster when the weather forecast is auspicious and then the weather decides to prove it wrong! Imagine that you have cooked, you have set everything, you have made the food styling and suddenly dark clouds gather and natural light becomes dimmer and dimmer…What the f…? This is so frustrating, isnt it?
No-matter-what shooting! : If I want to cook and shoot a new dish, nothing can stop me! I will give you an example of what I mean. When we had our house renovated, I shot under very difficult conditions. I was in the middle of my pregnancy, so my belly was large enough to get in the pic (LOL), craftsmen of all kinds hang out and the house was in such a mess that I can’t put it into words! (see the picture above). But a passionate food blogger is unstoppable! I appreciate the discretion of people working in my house…I dont know what they were thinking about but at least they were kind enough to keep it to theirselves!
That’s all for now. Thre will be sequel. So stay tuned, friends!
