Hello, my dear friends! Today I am taking you to the magical city of Venice. Venice is a very beautiful city. It is overwhelmed by tourists all year around since it is considered one of the most romantic cities in the world. Due to the fact that it is surrounded by a lagoon and is sited on small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges there are some major differences to a typical city. For example there are no cars. People use vaporetti (water buses), water taxi or gondolas as means of transportation. There are water ambulances, water police, we even saw a water grocery at Murano!

Venice is best known for its spectacular and elegant Carneval. Wherever you look around you will see masks and carneval costumes! They are so impressive and travel you in the past!

Murano is a series of islands very close to Venice and is best known for its glass making, particularly lampworking. You can find thousands items made of Murano glass in the tourist shops. We even saw glass flowers hanging in balconies! Burano, another island of the venetian lagoon, is famous for its lacework and its brightly colored houses. There is even a lacework museum!

In every popular destination prices are high! Venice could not be the exception. Having a chocolate at Florian in S.Marco square will cost you 10€+6€ extra charge for the live music! This is insane, don’t you think? Not charging you extra for the live music is news and some trattorias underline this fact with such indications as seen below:

The bottom line is that we loved Venice! It is the most romantic place in the whole world, so pretty, so glorious, so fairytale-like! You just need to choose places that are less crowded in order to avoid the thousands of tourists. Discover real Venice by going to off the beaten track places! And wear comfortable shoes because your feet will log many kilometers! The worst thing about our stay has to do with food. I will tell you all about it in a next post. Take care, my sweet friends!
